1. Improve Your Home's Insulation

Reducing your flow temperature from 70–80°C down to 55–60°C (or lower, if your system allows) puts less strain on your boiler and significantly reduces the energy required to maintain a comfortable home temperature. If you have a heat pump, lower flow temperatures are especially important, as heat pumps operate most efficiently in the 35–45°C range.

6. Use a Timer or Smart Thermostat

Only heat your home when you need to. A simple timed thermostat ensures your heating comes on in advance of when you need it and turns off automatically, avoiding the common habit of leaving it on throughout the day.

If your radiators feel warm at the bottom but cool at the top, they likely contain trapped air pockets that are preventing hot water from circulating fully. Bleeding your radiators releases this trapped air and restores full heat output at no cost.

8. Consider Adding Radiator Reflector Panels

9. Get Your System Serviced - Not Just Your Boiler

Avoid leaving the heating running with windows and doors open; you'll simply be expelling warm air and paying for the privilege. Reduce your heating gradually as outdoor temperatures rise, rather than switching it off entirely then back on during cold spells.
